The Process of Contesting a Traffic Ticket

After receiving a traffic ticket, you may be wondering how you should proceed. The best plan is to contact a traffic attorney because you may not be aware of the consequences of pleading guilty to a ticket.

For example, most people would think that a ticket for “no headlights on at night” is not a big deal. However, that seemingly “minor” violation would add two points to your driving record, and your insurance rates would increase as a result. No matter how insignificant the ticket may appear, it’s in your best interest to consult with an experienced traffic lawyer.

The Benefits of a Traffic Lawyer

A traffic lawyer will advise you whether the traffic ticket you received carries points which may be added to your driving record.

  1. If your ticket does carry points, then the lawyer can help in various ways:
  2. You won’t have to attend court.
  3. The lawyer will negotiate with the prosecuting attorney to reduce the ticket to a non-point violation (no points added to your driving record).
  4. The lawyer’s office will provide you with the fine and court cost bill with instructions to pay the court. You simply pay the court in a timely manner, and your case is closed.
